Key evaluation standards we consider before approving writing software to the PickMacApps directory:
Store your writing in standard Markdown (.md) or plain text so your words remain readable decades from now in any editor.
Look for focus modes, typewriter scrolling, and minimal chrome that keep your eyes centered on the current sentence.
Ensure documents are saved in local folders accessible via Finder rather than hidden inside proprietary cloud databases.
Seek out editors sold as perpetual licenses to keep your creative tools independent of ongoing monthly bills.
